More Than Just Fear:
A New Profile of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
Yale researchers just identified
a form of PTSD
that isn’t fear-based,
it’s based in emotional pain.
This matters deeply for my work with autistic adults. So many come to therapy knowing they carry trauma, but their experiences don’t fit the “classic” PTSD stereotype.
What they’ve lived through is different: years of being misunderstood, invalidated, forced to hide who they are. Chronic relational trauma that leaves real scars.
This research validates that their trauma is real, even when it doesn’t look like what people expect.
Understanding IS an intervention.
